At the Geneva Motor Show last March, Kia debuted the all-new Rio in its five-door hatchback form. Nearly two months later at the New York Auto Show, Kia revealed the four-door Rio sedan. This September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Korean carmaker has finally premiered the three-door Rio hatchback.

Designed primarily for the European market, the three-door Rio will expand the appeal of Kia's latest B-segment model by attracting a new group of consumers to the brand for the first time. Ultimately, Kia expects the three-door Rio to account for approximately 20 to 25 percent of the nameplate's total sales.

Though the three-door Rio has two less doors than the five-door version, it has the same exterior dimensions as the latter and retains the same roofline, one of the lowest in Kia's European product range.

In most European markets, the Rio three-door will be available with the same range of powertrains, equipment and options as the five-door, with a customer able to choose from four highly efficient, three- and four-cylinder engines with outputs ranging from 75 to 109hp.
