Lexus has debuted the GS 450h hybrid to the world nearly a month after the all-new GS was revealed at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
The GS 450h is the world's first premium performance sedan to be equipped with a V6 Atkinson cycle petrol engine and a two-motor hybrid system in a front engine, rear-wheel drive vehicle.
Its second-generation Lexus Hybrid Drive system features improvements in every aspect of its full-hybrid powertrain, combining significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO2, NOx and PM emissions while producing performance numbers that are on par with comparable V8-powered rivals.
Besides the powertrain setup, several highly innovative technologies are also appearing for the first time in the new GS model range. Among these are a new, energy saving air-conditioning system with S-Flow and 'nano-e' technologies; a second-generation Remote Touch Interface linked to the world's largest on-board multi-information display screen; and a choice of audio systems that offer unparalleled power and clarity.
According to Lexus, the GS 450h can be equipped with the Lexus Dynamic Handling system--the world's first integration of Active Variable Suspension, Dynamic Rear Steering, Variable Gear Ratio Steering and Step 5 of Lexus' unique Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system.
The Japanese luxury carmaker claims that the Lexus Dynamic Handling system coordinates every aspect of front and rear wheel control and "provide agile, sharp and confident driving behavior with a more direct response to the driver's actions."
