Heidfeld completed his 25th consecutive race at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain and broke Michael Schumacher's record in the most number of races in a row in F1 history.
It seemed like Heidfeld's personal gift to himself as he posted the record in Spain on his 32nd birthday.
"I would like to say a big thank you to the BMW Sauber F1 Team for the stability of the car, which obviously played a major role in this record," Heidfeld in a statement.
It may be recalled that the last time Heidfeld failed to reach the chequered flag was when a technical problem forced him to retire just two laps before the finish line at the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix.
