Heidfeld beats Schumi's record

No thanks to the ongoing drama between the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile and the Formula One Teams Association, BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld record in the most number of completed races almost went unnoticed.

Heidfeld completed his 25th consecutive race at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain and broke Michael Schumacher's record in the most number of races in a row in F1 history.

It seemed like Heidfeld's personal gift to himself as he posted the record in Spain on his 32nd birthday.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the BMW Sauber F1 Team for the stability of the car, which obviously played a major role in this record," Heidfeld in a statement.

It may be recalled that the last time Heidfeld failed to reach the chequered flag was when a technical problem forced him to retire just two laps before the finish line at the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix.
