The fight for the local midsize sedan market is far from over. On top of the entry of new players in the hotly-contested segment, Honda Cars Philippines has just launched a refreshed version of the Accord.

The front fascia of the Accord brings its looks closer to the rest of its locally-available stablemates, particularly the new upturned front grille and the deeply sculpted bumper design. A new chrome garnish updates the look from the rear, while the addition of front corner sensors complements the rear sensors and makes maneuvering in tight corners an easier affair. Capping off the additions to the refreshed Accord is the new 17-inch alloy wheel design, which the lower-spec 2.4-liter variant gets.

Inside, plush leather seats provide comforting luxury to go with what is the biggest cabin space in its class, while the jackknife key stores the blade away, leaving only the fob and the built-in remote to the car's alarm system exposed. As an added touch to answer the demands of modern living, a Bluetooth hands-free system connects the driver's mobile phone to the 3.5-liter Accord's stereo system, "amplifying the voice at the other end to your desired level."

Asked if the new electronic features might pose a problem for local after-sales service after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan and severely hampered the operations of numerous parts suppliers and manufacturers, Sheryl de los Santos of Honda Cars Philippines' public relations group said the company has prepared for the refreshed Accord's arrival well ahead of the double disaster so the availability of spare parts for both variants will not be an issue.

The Accord still retains the same powerplants for both the 3.5-liter and 2.4-liter variants. The 3.5-liter V6 mill still produces 275hp and is still equipped with Honda's Variable Cylinder Management, while the 2.4-liter in-line-four i-VTEC variant still puts out 180hp. Like the rest of Honda Cars Philippines' products, both Accord variants meet Euro-4 emission standards.

"With the introduction of the latest Accord, we at Honda remain true to our commitment in presenting the latest fun-to-drive and environment-friendly automobiles that bring joy to one's driving experience," said Honda Cars Philippines' president and general manager, Tatsuya Natsume.
