Hyundai is teasing us by harnessing the versatility of today’s smartphones to create the first prototype of its own Connectivity Concept, which is just one of the many clever new technologies that the Korean carmaker wants to put in its cars "as soon as 2015." The problem is that the Europeans will be the first to get their hands on it once Hyundai brings it into production.

Shown on the second-generation i30, which debuted last year, the Connectivity Concept allows the user to lock and unlock the car by placing his/her smartphone over a Near Field Communication (NFC) tag, negating the need for a traditional key fob.

If the smartphone is placed in the center console, it activates the user's profile by streaming content to the i30's seven-inch touchscreen, with all of the user's content--such as music, phone contacts, radio station preferences, and individual profile settings--displayed on the screen. In addition, the device’s battery is recharged wirelessly while in use.

Multiple users can be synced with the car, so setting everything up is quick and easy as the Connectivity Concept in the i30 tailors the in-car settings according to each driver’s smartphone. Furthermore, the Connectivity Concept utilizes MirrorLink to wirelessly access and control personal content through the touchscreen, including navigation, Internet-based applications, and multimedia.

As the technology continually develops, there will be capabilities to store the driver's seating positions and exterior mirror settings, providing customers with a comfortable and individual driving environment."
