BMW\'s DTM drivers take i8 hybrid sports car out for a spin

BMW\'s Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) racing drivers recently dropped by the carmaker\'s Leipzig plant in Germany and were given a guided tour of the production facility that produces BMW\'s i3 all-electric and i8 hybrid vehicles.

However, besides giving the plant\'s employees the opportunity to meet and have their photo taken with the drivers, the carmaker also allowed Bruno Spengler, Dirk Werner, Augusto Farfus, Joey Hand, Martin Tomczyk, Andy Priaulx, Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock to climb behind the wheel of the i8 and \"take it for a spin\" on the site\'s test track.

According to BMW, thanks to the perfect synchronization of its electric and combustion engines, the i8 is \"the first thoroughbred sports car with the same consumption and emission values as a compact car.\"

\"It was exciting and interesting to drive this car,\" said Glock after his test drive. \"I was very impressed by the performance and acceleration. The electric and combustion engines work together perfectly. The technology used in the BMW i models is certainly ahead of its time. BMW has once again emphatically demonstrated its innovative prowess.\"
