Have you ever wanted the Chevrolet Camaro but couldn\'t justify buying one given that you\'re a family man and the prospect of owning a V8 muscle car just seems impractical? Well, General Motors Southeast Asia may have the answer for you--provided that there\'s a demand for it.
According to GM international operations vice president for manufacturing Jim DeLuca, the American carmaker is seriously looking at selling the V8, rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet SS performance sedan in the ASEAN region. DeLuca made the announcement at the opening of the Bangkok Motor Expo. He added, however, that selling the SS in the region would only happen if there\'s a demand for it.
\"There has to be a solid business case before we decide to bring the SS to the region,\" DeLuca told the media at the unveiling of the SS at the motor show. \"We\'ve seen it happen where a car was warmly received by the media and the public at its launch, but when it finally went on sale, it didn\'t sell enough. So before we sell the SS, we have to determine if there\'s really a demand for it.\"
Although the SS is manufactured in Australia--a right-hand-drive country like Thailand--where it is sold as the Holden VF Commodore, could it ever be sold in the Philippines as a left-hand-drive model?
\"That\'s the beauty of it,\" DeLuca told TopGear.com.ph. \"The SS shares the same global rear-wheel-drive platform as the Camaro. It (the SS) also went on sale in the United States recently so we could sell the SS in the Philippines. We really just need to know if there\'s a demand for such a car in the region before we can start to sell it.\"
So, are you in the market for a 6.0-liter, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan that has a near 50/50 weight distribution and puts out 362hp and 530Nm? Time to start badgering your Chevrolet salesperson.
