Ford is really going the extra mile to enhance the safety and security of its vehicles. The American carmaker has now revealed a new feature called Guard Mode, which is accessible through the FordPass Pro dedicated smartphone app.

Guard Mode is a connected-vehicle security system that monitors vehicles—specifically, Ford vans—and alerts owners through their smartphones of any potential security breaches.

This new security feature uses sensors to detect whenever someone opens the hood or the load compartment, enters the vehicle, or starts the engine. It then sends a push notification to the owner’s smartphone via the FordPass Pro app. Through the app, Guard Mode is also able to record every instance that the vehicle was accessed or alarmed, and the vehicle’s last known location.

Ford added that a scheduling function for Guard Mode will also be available in the future. Through this, owners can set when Guard Mode will be automatically activated.

“Our vans help keep our customers moving and the tools inside keep them working. FordPass Pro and Guard Mode help owners protect their vehicles—and their businesses—by keeping them one step ahead of the criminals. And this is just the start,” said Ford of Europe Enterprise Connectivity director Mark Harvey.

“As all new vehicles now come connected, we see huge potential in developing additional security features to help our customers’ businesses thrive.”

Ford shared that van crime is on the rise in Europe, and this new feature will surely help prevent such incidents in the future. Connected vehicle services aren’t available in the Philippines yet, but features like these would be welcome additions to cars in our market. Our roads aren’t necessarily the safest, after all.

What do you think, readers? Is this something local carmakers, especially Ford Philippines, should consider launching in these parts? Share your thoughts in the comments.
