Mazda MX-5

By now, you already know that we crowned the Mazda MX-5 as our 2015 Car of the Year. Even so, the roadster is still not a common sight on our potholed streets, so you might be wondering: Does this car even sell? How many units of the fourth-generation MX-5 have been sold in the country so far?

The quick answer is yes, there is definitely a demand for this car. In fact, some interested buyers who reserved late this year may need to wait until the first few months of 2016 for their unit.

Berjaya Auto Philippines, the official distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, reveals that 129 units have been delivered to giddy customers since the company started accepting reservations middle of this year. More units are coming, as buyers who made their reservation in the latter part of October can expect their own MX-5 to be delivered in January or February. Because of the demand, the Philippines is one of the biggest MX-5 markets in the world, said BAP president Steven Tan.

Surprisingly, sales figures for manual transmission and automatic transmission are about the same. The popular colors, meanwhile, are Soul Red and Crystal White.
