Lexus has begun production of the NX, its first compact crossover and its first model to be equipped with a turbocharger.
The NX is being assembled at Toyota’s Miyata plant with the turbo engine to be produced at the nearby Kanda plant.
Also, two variants of the NX are being assembled at the plant: the turbocharged NX200t and the hybrid-powered NX300h.
For Lexus's home market of Japan alone, 6,500 units of the NX have already been preordered, which, according to Toyota Motor Corporation executive vice president Masamoto Maekawa, is "significantly more than we originally expected."
