If you managed to pass by a Petron gas station around lunchtime today, you probably noticed this wasn’t just another regular Tuesday afternoon. The reason for all that traffic? A whopping 50% discount on fuel products from 11am to 1pm.

Well, the company noticed the promo caused one hell of a jam for many motorists today and has released a statement apologizing for the inconvenience.

“It is our desire to extend assistance to the public by offering discounted fuels for a limited time, as well as give back to all the loyal customers who continuously support Petron. We recognize that this activity has caused some inconvenience due to heavy traffic,” the statement reads.

“We sincerely apologize and have taken note of all of your feedback and suggestions,” it continues.

Besides addressing the traffic buildup the promo caused, the company also took the opportunity to thank everyone who assisted in managing the situation near its gas stations.

“We thank all the traffic enforcers, the MMDA [Metropolitan Manila Development Authority], and all the LGU [local government unit] and barangay officials who helped manage the flow of vehicles near our stations,” the statement added. “And again, we thank the customers for their support and understanding.

A total of 1,142 Petron branches took part in the 50% off promo. Several members of the Top Gear Philippines staff also witnessed the traffic buildup caused by the promo first-hand. You can check out images of the situation captured earlier today, as well as reactions on Twitter, here.
