Toyota announced late last week that it would be recalling around 3.37 million vehicles globally because of possible defects in their airbag inflators and a separate issue regarding their emission control units.
According to a report by Reuters, the possible airbag flaw affects 1.43 million vehicles, while the emission control unit concerns affect 2.87 million cars. The company said that 930,000 units are affected by both issues.
Prius and Lexus CT200h units made between 2010 and 2012 might have a crack in the weld of their airbag inflators, which could separate the inflator chambers and increase the risk of injury. Prius, Auris (hatchback) and Corolla (known as the Altis in our market) units made between 2006 and 2015, meanwhile, contain emission control units that are prone to cracks that could lead to fuel leaks over time.
While majority of the units involved are found in Japan, the US, Europe and China, the report says that 568,000 of them are located "in other areas." Of the vehicles mentioned in the recall, the Prius, the Corolla and the Lexus CT200h are available in the Philippines.
