Toyota PH’s P4.5-B Batangas logistics hub will be operational by the end of 2021

Aside from reaffirming its commitment to local automotive production as one of only two carmakers to retain manufacturing facilities in the country, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is also strengthening its importation activities with the planned opening of its Batangas Vehicle Logistics Hub in the fourth quarter of 2021.

The Toyota Batangas Hub: Size and use case

The P4.5-billion facility sits within a 32-hectare property near the Batangas Port. Six hectares of this will be kept as a green area, while the logistics hub itself will feature dedicated sites for pre-delivery inspection and post-production installation with a capacity of 160,000 units per year. The stockyard on site will be able to accommodate up to 4,500 units at a time. A covered loading and unloading area has lanes for up to 18 car carriers, allowing workers of the facility to carry out their work in any weather condition.

Most of the models comprising TMP’s lineup are imported from other countries, with only the Vios subcompact sedan and the Innova MPV produced at its Santa Rosa plant. Okamoto acknowledged that the new safeguard duties imposed on imported vehicles mean “market recovery will be adversely affected and growth may be much more limited,” but their impact may be cushioned by strong sales of TMP’s locally produced units.

TMP continues its reign as the country’s top-selling car brand in 2020, with its total sales of 100,019 units accounting for 41% of all brand-new vehicles sold last year.
