The automotive industry is already preparing for the aftermath of this COVID-19 outbreak. Carmakers are now taking the necessary steps so they can ease themselves back into full operations once businesses are up and running again.

Case in point: Volkswagen Philippines. The German carmaker has already released the ‘new normal’ safety measures that it will implement at its dealerships once operations resume. This includes the mandatory wearing of face masks and temperature checks at VW facilities.

Social distancing will also be observed in showrooms as well as vehicle service bays. Customers are not allowed to sit beside one another at transaction tables, and handshakes will be avoided among visitors and VW personnel alike. Cashless payments, meanwhile, are highly encouraged in order to minimize physical contact. In addition, Volkswagen assures its clientele that its facilities—its test-drive vehicles included—will be regularly disinfected.

“It will be very vital that we collectively create an environment wherein our customers’ safety, health and well-being are our utmost priority by the time we are allowed to operate and our customers are allowed to visit our dealerships once again,” said Volkswagen Philippines president Felipe Estrella. “With this, we recommend certain guidelines, procedures and system in order to ensure our readiness and guarantee the safety of everyone.”
