TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Mitsubishi ASX very much in demand locally

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has already sold the first 200 ASX units it brought in barely two months after the compact crossover sport-utility vehicle was launched in the country.

Froilan Dytianquin, Mitsubishi Philippines’ assistant vice-president for marketing services, said the next 200 units will arrive in November.

"We're competing with Europe when it comes to getting the next batch of ASX," Dytianquin said. "It’s very popular there that we hope Mitsubishi won't cut back on our orders just to satisfy the European market.

Dytianquin added that a waiting period of one to two months is already being reported by some dealerships. Of the three variants sold here, the mid-level Mitsubishi ASX GLS 4x2 is the most popular.

The Mitsubishi official could only shake his head when asked if the 1.8-liter direct-injection turbodiesel variant would make it to the Philippines anytime soon.

"“We'd like to but, unfortunately, the diesel ASX is Euro 5-compliant," Dytianquin said. "We've talked to the major petroleum companies and they told us their diesel fuels are only Euro 3-compliant. So as much as we'd like to bring it in, the diesel ASX can’t handle our local fuels."
