When it comes to vehicular towing duties, rugged pickups or brawny 4x4s are on the top of everyone's minds. So to those who doubt the Kia Soul's power for cargo hauling and towing duty, prepare to be amazed.

The Kia Soul beat 27 other rides in bagging the 2010 Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Award for vehicles under £16,000 (roughly P1.244 million).

Tests were done at the Millbrook Proving Ground by a number of specialist motoring judges who evaluated vehicles based on towing ability, acceleration, braking and the ability to cope with demanding hill starts. After that, another group of assessed the vehicles' usability for caravans.

"The Soul gives a spirited performance, has a usable bodyshape and promises low running costs. As a towcar for small caravans or trailer tents, Kia's hatchback is a worthy winner," judges at the Towcar of the Year Awards said.

The Kia Soul has been reaping awards since it was launched in the global market in 2008. It has received the Red Dot award for industrial design and the Top Safety Pick award from the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It became a part of the Ward's Autoworld "Interior of the Year" list in April and was named as one of the "Coolest New Cars Under $18,000" by Kelley Blue Book's
