Maserati GranCabrio Sport

Maserati has just put on sale the GranCabrio Sport, a harder-edged version of the standard GranCabrio, giving the Italian carmaker a triumvirate of high-performance flagship models of its products as it joins the GranTurismo S and the Quattroporte Sport GT S.

Unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the GranCabrio Sport is equipped with an all-alloy 4.7- liter V8 engine that churns out 450hp and 510Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from zero to 100kph in 5.2 seconds before it reaches a top speed of 285kph.

Thanks to its ZF six-speed automatic transmission and its MC Auto Shift software, however, the GranCabrio Sport is more fuel efficient than the standard model by six percent.

Maserati also revised its Skyhook active-suspension system to improve the handling of the GranCabrio Sport while its braking system now has grooved and drilled dual-cast brake discs to make it even more responsive. In addition, the GranCabrio Sport was given a revised exhaust system that automatically opens its bypass valves if the car's Manual-Sport mode is activated, allowing it to produce an even richer sound.

The GranCabrio Sport can be visually distinguished from its more plebian variant through the black grille which features the brand's Trident logo with red accents, the black look headlights with its white sidemarks, the front corner splitters, the redesigned and body-colored sideskirts, and the black oval exhaust tips. Rounding out the exterior package are the 20-inch Astro-design alloy wheels.

The GranCabrio Sport also features a new body color: Rosso Trionfale, a rich metallic red inspired by the Italian national color used on 1950s racing Maseratis.

The look is carried over inside the cabin with newly designed seats and driver-focused contents such as longer Trofeo-design gear-shift paddles and drilled aluminum pedals. Two new leather colors are also available for the GranCabrio Sport's cabin: Bianco Pregiato, a brilliant ivory shade; and Grigio Chrono, a sporty, dark tone of grey.
