TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Mini releases special-edition Clubman variant

Slated for release at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the new Mini Clubman Bond Street Edition pays homage to that most fashionable of London destinations. In the same vein as previous special-edition Minis--all named after the famous districts and streets of London--the Bond Street Edition attempts to capture the spirit of its namesake.

As Bond Street is considered the fashion capital of London, this special edition features tasteful but subdued styling cues, including a two-tone Black and Cool Champagne paint job, set off by the optional Chrome Line exterior package. There are also bespoke twin-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels finished off with Champagne-colored center caps.

The interior gets more Champagne-colored accents and lovely contrast-stitched leather with champagne piping wrapped around the dashboard, seats and armrests. As this is a special edition, it comes fully loaded, with power front seats, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, and automatic lights and wipers. There's also a storage pack and lighting pack, although there's no word yet on whether the interior mood lighting will be champagne-colored as well. We wouldn't bet against it.

The Bond Street will be available in Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper D and Cooper SD variants. It's not likely that Mini Philippines (aka British United Automobiles) will bring in the diesel variants, but a Bond Street Clubman with the 184hp "S" engine sounds sweet.

As Mini runs out of historic and notable London landmarks to name its show cars after, one hopes that they cast their nets wider. Rather than a dowdy Downing Street Special, we'd rather have a Liverpool Edition Coupe in Yellow Submarine paint job and Strawberry Fields interior package. What do you think?
