Angkas is going cashless

It will begin accepting credit card payments this month

Motorcycle-taxi service providers have found themselves in quite a sticky situation since this pandemic started. You see, the mere idea of pillion riding has become quite the sore spot for authorities over the past several months, let alone the operation of motorcycle ride-hailing services. Who could forget the whole backriding shield fiasco?

That said, things are starting to look up—at least for riders and these motorcycle-taxis, that is. In addition to easing up on its restrictions for pillion riding, some government officials are now recommending the resumption of the motorcycle-taxi pilot run in general community quarantine areas, including Metro Manila.

In order for this to happen, however, there are still a lot of preparations that need to be made. Angkas, for its part, is set to launch a new system that taxi operations need during this pandemic: cashless transactions.

According to its latest Facebook post, the company will be accepting credit card payments soon—in September 2020, to be exact. Look:

This means that anytime within the next few weeks, regardless if motorcycle-taxis end up resuming operations or not, Angkas will be deploying its new cashless payment system. The company provided no further details about the new mode of payment, but we reckon it will still be accepting cash payments even with the new cashless system in place.

This mode of payment is all the rage nowadays, and for good measure. It reduces physical contact between people—in this case, between rider and passenger. As a matter of fact, even the government itself is pushing for cashless payments. In case you missed it, the Department of Transportation recently announced that all tollways must shift to completely cashless payments by November 2, 2020.
