The Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) December 1 deadline for RFID compliance is fast approaching. Sure, the agency has reportedly said no fines will be handed out this Christmas season,, but wouldn’t you rather get it over and done with sooner rather than later?

If you’re already busy working on getting your ride an Autosweep RFID sticker, you’re in luck. The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has announced that it will be putting up 100 additional installation sites to meet the huge demand.

Besides the new installation sites, SMC is making the following changes to get its RFID tags to motorists as quickly as possible:

  1. Increasing manpower and equipment to speed-up pre-enrollment and pre-activation.
  2. Extending installation hours within the carriageway to 24 hours, seven days a week.
  3. Increasing tag allocation for existing installation sites.
  4. Increasing offsite installation at barangays and villages.
  5. Update to online appointment system so it will accommodate RFID caravans in LGUs, villages, and malls.
  6. Autosweep stations will once again accept walk-in applicants (with strict implementation of health protocols)
  7. Delivery of new RFID Mobile Wing Vans for off-site installation activities

According to SMC boss Ramon Ang, the company saw a significant spike in RFID applications in October that grew even more once the DOTr extended its deadline. RFID suppliers also experienced production and manpower limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ang also added that the company will focus on increasing installation capability up north even though most of its expressways are located in Southern Luzon.

“Traditionally, because most of our expressways—SLEX, STAR, SKYWAY, NAIAX—are in the south, the vast majority of our users are in the south. However, we have received so many inquiries, requests, and applications from non-regular users in the north, so we are increasing the number of installation sites there,” Ang said.

“Our main objective is to serve as many motorists as possible, in the most efficient way we can. We thank our motorists and ask for their consideration, patience, and cooperation. Sama-sama, magtulungan po tayo,” he added.

Again, we suggest you begin working on getting your vehicle equipped with an RFID tag as soon as possible. Expect a further influx of applicants once the Christmas season winds down.
