Look: Two sides of BGC-Ortigas bridge project almost connected

Not bad, not bad at all. Our friend dimitrivalencia has released new drone footage of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project, and, by the looks of this update, there’s been good progress.

The two sides of the project are finally close to meeting. We’re also given a good look at the BGC-Ortigas bridge’s construction sites on both sides of the Pasig River—the BGC side will land on Lawton Avenue, while the Ortigas side will land on Santa Monica Street in Pasig City. Look:

What the DPWH has managed to accomplish here is impressive given the circumstances. Construction in Metro Manila ground to a near halt during the initial onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, though the DPWH has since resumed work under the ongoing modified enhanced community quarantine period (MECQ).

Less than two weeks ago, the DPWH released a statement saying the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project was already 51% complete, and that the agency was following a “catch up plan” to make up for time lost over the past two months.

The BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project has a P1.6 billion budget and will span a total of 961 meters in length. The hope is this project, once completed, will cut travel time between Ortigas and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to just 11 minutes. Construction began in July 2017, and it is expected to be completed in 2021.
