Going out for drinks, partying, or nightlife, in general, is now out of the questions amidst the Philippine government’s fight to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Metro Manila Council has announced it will be imposing a curfew within Metro Manila from 8pm to 5am in the morning. This will begin on March 15 and will last until April 14 (subject to daily evaluation), and the measure was agreed upon unanimously by all 17 mayors of the council. What’s more, the council has recommended the closure of all malls and similar establishments—except those offering essential services such as groceries, banks, and pharmacies—amid the outbreak.

There are exemptions, though. According to the MMC, individuals who have work within the curfew hours, require medical attention, are in urgent need to buy necessities, and are doing an official function get a pass. It clarified, however, that everyone should purchase what they need before the curfew begins and adjust their activities based on the curfew.

Isipin muna natin, we are 12 million in NCR population. Gusto ba natin lahat yan? Ano nangyari sa Italy sabi ni Secretary Año? Nung lumaki tsaka nag-lockdown, andyan na yung problema—eh ngayon 60 plus pa lang tayo. Rapid yan pag gumalaw tayo nang gumalaw.”

This is a developing story. Expect more information to surface as the day moves forward.

Update: It turns out it’s up to each city and municipality to pass an ordinance that will impose a curfew in their respective area of responsibility. It won’t come from a blanket declaration from the MMC. So monitor your city’s socmed pages for updates. Or better yet, just follow the proposed curfew and stay indoors on your own volition.
