Eager to go road tripping once this pandemic is over? If Southern Leyte is one of the destinations you plan on checking out, you’ll be glad to know the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has just completed a new tourist road that will make its sights more accessible than ever.

The new two-lane concrete tourist road cost P22.6 million to build and leads directly to the Anas View Deck in Padre Burgos, which provides visitors with a scenic view of the island of Limasawa, Sogod Bay, and the Bohol sea. In a statement, DPWH head Mark Villar said the agency hopes the new piece of infrastructure will help draw outsiders to the area. Look:

“With this tourism road, we can see a high potential in drawing more tourists in the province which would hopefully spur development for communities near these sites,” Villar said, also saying that prior to this development, the route was a “then-dusty and bumpy road.”

This is a pretty small development when you view the DPWH’s infrastructure push as a whole, but it’s nice to know the agency pays attention to the state of thoroughfares well outside the metro, too. Are you eager to try this road out once we’re all allowed to be out and about again?
