What was supposed to last almost three years didn't even make it to three days. CNN Philippines reports that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reopened the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge that runs between Mandaluyong and the Rockwell area in Makati.

The story reads that Makati Public Safety Assistance (MAPSA) removed the barriers to the bridge at 9:30pm last night upon the DPWH's orders.  Initially, the plan was to widen the bridge, with closure expected for about two-and-a-half years. The project, which is part of a grant from the People's Republic of China, is expected to widen the bridge from two lanes to four, in an attempt to better serve the traffic that flows through the area.

"The alignment caters to about 1.3 million vehicles daily - almost three times its current capacity. There is a need to address the gap if we are serious in solving traffic," DPWH secretary Mark Villar said previously about the planned reconstruction.

The bridge will be open until further notice, so no word yet on if or when it'll be closed again. What do you guys think about all of this? Is the widening project necessary, or was it too hasty a call? Let us know your thoughts below.
