If you're going somewhere within the metro this weekend, vehicle traffic is expected to be heavier than usual due to numerous road closures in Quezon City and Manila.
Quezon City is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee. To mark the occasion, the local government will be closing the following streets "in anticipation of the festivities over the weekend" effective at 12:01am on October 11 (Saturday):
* Roosevelt Avenue, from Del Monte Avenue up to Pitimini Street and Commercial Drive Center;
* NS Amoranto Street, from Mariveles Street to Labo Street (District I);
* Commonwealth Avenue (four lanes, northbound), from Sandiganbayan toward COA (District II);
* Portion of Anonas Road, from Lanzones Street to Pajo Street (District III);
* Tomas Morato, from Timog Avenue to Scout Fuentebella;
* Maginhawa Street, from Makadios to Masaya Streets (District IV);
* Quirino Highway, from Regalado Avenue to Belfast Street (District V); and
* Visayas Avenue (northbound), from Congressional Avenue to Tandang Sora Avenue.
The Quezon City local government failed to disclose, however, when these streets will be opened up to traffic again.
The city of Manila will also close different stretches of Roxas Boulevard to make way for two different fun run activities on October 11-12.
On October 11, the southbound half of Roxas Boulevard, from Katigbak to President Quirino Avenue, will be closed by 5am to give way to the "Run To Build" program. On October 12, the same southbound part (but from Katigbak to P. Ocampo this time around) will also be closed for the Boy Scouts of the Philippines' "Takbong Laging Handa" event.
We suggest you plan your route now if you really need to go out this weekend.
