We’ve only been under general community quarantine (GCQ) in Metro Manila for a few days, so it’s only normal that a lot of people still want clarifications regarding the guidelines on travel during this period.
To set the record straight, Joint Task Force Covid Shield (JTF CV Shield) commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has clarified that all those moving within Metro Manila or within the same province do not need to secure a travel pass.
“Since we are now implementing GCQ and modified GCQ and also indispensable travels are similar to the case of the LSIs (locally stranded individuals), then travels within National Capital Region and within the province shall be permitted without the travel authority,” Eleazar said in a statement. This means that if you’re going from, say, Quezon City to Pasig City, you should be able to do so freely without the need for authorization.
For those who plan to travel between provinces or regions, say from Metro Manila to Pampanga, those people must still secure travel passes from their respective LGUs. That authorization will be issued by the directors of the five police districts in the capital. Others who are moving between two provinces within the same region may secure authorization from the chiefs of their respective city or municipal police stations. To secure a pass, Eleazar said that the applicant only needs a certification from their barangay and a medical clearance certificate from the city or municipal health office.
So, there you have it. If you need to and are planning to drive out anytime soon, then keep in mind the government’s guidelines on travel during GCQ.
