Grab suspends GrabShare to comply with social distancing amid COVID-19 spread

GrabShare regulars, take note: The service, which is a more affordable version of a regular GrabCar albeit with shared passengers, is set to be suspended by the ride-hailing platform due to the continued spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines.

According to a statement released by Grab Philippines, GrabShare will be suspended in Metro Manila and Cebu City starting March 13, 2020, at noon. This is in compliance with social-distancing guidelines set by health officials.

“To aid in the social distancing prescribed by the Philippine health officials with regards to the public health situation on COVID-19, Grab will be suspending its GrabShare services in Metro Manila and Cebu starting March 13, 12 noon, and will resume as soon as the public health situation de-escalates,” the statement reads.

“Other Grab transport services will remain to be available to serve our commuting public. We would like to remind everyone to plan their trips prudently and take personal hygiene seriously. Thank you.”

It’s nice to hear most of the company’s service will remain online amid this scare, but GrabShare’s suspension is another blow to a transportation scene that is already struggling to contain COVID-19’s effects.

The spread of the virus has already been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), so it’s best to avoid heading out if unnecessary. If you have to go out, stay protected by following these tips.
