Helmets may soon be optional below 40kph courtesy of new bill
“House Bill 153, written by Representative Arnolfo Teves of Negros Oriental, aims to make amendments to Republic Act 10054, also known as an Act Mandating All Motorcycle Riders to Wear Standard Protective Motorcycle Helmets While Driving.
“If the bill passes, motorcycle riders plying streets where the maximum speed limit is lower 40kph will not be required to wear helmets. Any thoroughfares where the speed limit is higher than 40kph will require riders to use protective motorcycle helmets that meet Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) specifications.”
DILG sets 60-day deadline on Metro Manila mayors for road clearing ops
“The ultimatum is now official: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced that starting today, Metro Manila mayors have 60 days to clear their cities’ roads of obstructions. By our count, the deadline falls on September 26, 2019.
“Año stressed that mayors should prioritize clearing primary roads like Commonwealth Avenue, Osmeña Highway, Aurora Boulevard, and C5—thoroughfares that the official says directly contribute to Metro Manila’s traffic crisis. He added that tertiary roads and residential areas with sidewalks being used as parking areas of makeshift terminals and marketplaces should be targeted next.”
New bill aims to standardize parking fees to P100 for first eight hours
“Another bill has been filed in Congress with the aim of standardizing parking rates across the Philippines. House Bill No. 506, dubbed the Parking Fees Regulation Act, was proposed by Surigao del Norte Representative Robert Ace Barbers, and it could potentially make leaving your car at parking establishments significantly more affordable.
“Under the bill, establishments that impose parking fees cannot charge over P100 per vehicle for the first eight hours, and an additional P10 per succeeding hour. Overnight parking rates will be capped at P200 per vehicle, and imposed grace periods cannot be less than 30 minutes.”
A new airport will soon rise in Bulacan
“In a Facebook post, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is set to be granted the new Bulacan airport project after no rival bids were placed for its construction, operation, and maintenance.
“The project, dubbed the New Manila International Airport, will have a design capacity of 100 million passengers per year and will be built with a four-runway configuration, the DOTr says. Expansion for up to 200 million passengers annually is possible, and the government is targeting 240 aircraft movements per hour.”
All streets in San Juan City are now no-parking zones
“Mayor Francis Zamora has suspended pay parking along all streets in San Juan City. The move comes not long after the official made areas surrounding the Greenhills Shopping Center no-parking zones.
“Executive Order No. 007 or An Order Suspending Pay Parking in All the Streets of the City of San Juan, which was signed by Mayor Zamora earlier today, officially prohibits pay parking along the various thoroughfares”
