It appears the rehabilitation works along the LRT-1 line have yet to be finished. The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has just confirmed that there will be upcoming weekend shutdowns for the rest of April.
Following the temporary shutdown during Holy Week, the LRMC has now announced that the LRT-1 operations will be suspended on two consecutive weekends, from April 17 to 18 and 24 to 25. This closure will also help make way for preparations for the rollout of the new trains later this year.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has likewise advised the public that there will be buses plying Route 17—Monumento to Edsa via Rizal Avenue or Taft Avenue—to serve as alternatives for commuters affected by the LRT-1 closure.
Also, the agency has clarified that there will be no changes to the current LRT-1 weekday schedule, wherein northbound trains operate from 4:30am to 9:15pm and southbound trains from 4:30am to 9:30pm.
For all those still taking public transport during this modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) period, take note of these changes. Also, be reminded that the DOTr’s ECQ guidelines on public transport still apply during MECQ—read this previous story for more details on that.
