LTFRB: Pets are now allowed inside public utility vehicles

Great news for pet owners: The Philippine Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has announced that pets are now allowed in public modes of transportation.

According to the agency, it has amended a provision in Memorandum Circular No. 2011-004 with MC 2019-019, and is now allowing pets to be transported via public utility vehicles (PUV), provided the following provisions are followed:

  1. Animals must be put inside carriers or cages and placed at a designated animal compartment of the PUV should there be other passengers inside the vehicle.
  2. If there are no other passengers, pets may be allowed to be carried by the owner as long as said animals are free from foul odor and that the owner maintains cleanliness and sanitation.
  3. Pet owners will be held responsible for damage the animal may cause, including cleaning and sanitation of the PUV.
  4. Safety, convenience, and comfort of the passengers shall not in any way be sacrificed.
