Take note, Metro Manila motorists: heavier traffic may well be on its way (as if it isn’t here already).

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that several road repairs and reblocking projects will begin tonight, Wednesday, January 29. The government organization lists five locations that will be affected by construction in the coming weeks and months:

First up is the C5-Ortigas flyover. Construction is set from 11pm to 5am on weekdays and will last for 180 days—excluding weekends and holidays—from January 31 to July 28.

Next on the list is the rehabilitation of Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard and Service Road. Reblocking will be done starting 11pm every Friday until 5am the following Monday from January 29 to June 26.

The third project will take place at Oroquieta Street in Sampaloc, Manila, and is scheduled for 270 days from January 31 to October 26. This will follow the same weekend schedule as the Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard repairs—beginning 11pm every Friday until 5am the succeeding Monday.

The last two projects are scheduled simultaneously at 11pm to 5am from January 29 to February 4. One is the dismantling and removal of the steel canopy located along EDSA southbound in front of the AMA Towers Residences Building in Mandaluyong City. The second of the pair is the lane closure along EDSA northbound near the Taft Avenue intersection, where one lane will be temporarily used for other projects.

While these road works are scheduled way outside of the usual rush hours, the MMDA has still advised motorists who might be affected to take alternate routes instead. You might want to plan your trips accordingly, then.
