Businesses and operations across the country came to a halt when the COVID-19 crisis started, the government’s infrastructure projects included. For several months, construction activities were at a standstill due to the pandemic.

This meant that now more than ever, the pressure falls upon government agencies to meet their deadlines, especially for those who have their hands full. The Department of Transportation (DOTr), for example, has massive projects such as the Metro Manila Subway project to think about, and the delays caused by this pandemic raise several concerns regarding the project’s timeline.

In a recent report by GMA News, however, agency secretary Arthur Tugade assured the public that the DOTr will do everything to catch up with its targets and eventually meet deadlines. Tugade said that notwithstanding these delays, he wants the Subway to be partially operational by the last quarter of 2021.

’Yung subway, tuloy pa rin ho ’yung schedule namin. Gusto ko ho mag-partial operability last quarter of next year,” he said.

Bumagal kumpara nung nag-umpisa.

Once completed and fully operational, the 36-kilometer Metro Manila Subway is expected to ferry 1.5 million passengers in the capital per day. In case you already forgot what it’s supposed to look like, you can backtrack here.
