Sad news today: Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Danilo Lim has passed away a little over a week after announcing he had tested positive for COVID-19. He was 65 years old.
The news was confirmed by MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago this morning. In a statement, Malacañang Palace expressed its condolences to Lim’s family, saying he fulfilled his role in the current administration “with professionalism, competence, and integrity.”
Lim shared his positive COVID-19 diagnosis in a Facebook post just before the new year. At the time, he said he was only suffering from mild symptoms and was in self-isolation. The official also expressed relief after both his wife and child tested negative for the virus, and said he would continue to work remotely.
“Sa kabila nito, tulad ng ginagawa ko ngayong araw, patuloy akong magtratrabaho remotely at magsasagawa ng mga meetings via teleconference para masigurong hindi maaantala ang anumang mga operasyon sa opisina na kailangan sa panahon ngayon,” Lim said at the time.
“Patuloy na mag-ingat ang lahat at bigyang prayoridad ang inyong kalusugan. Sumunod tayo palagi sa health protocols para mapangalagaan ang ating mga sarili pati ang mga nasa paligid natin.”
Lim began his term as MMDA chairman in 2017, after taking over for then-serving general manager Thomas Orbos. Rest in peace, sir.
