Everyone is gearing up for the worst as Typhoon Ompong makes its way to our shores. Among those making preparations is the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The government agency has announced it is now on 'blue alert' for the incoming typhoon.

"The raising of blue alert aims to ensure the continuous monitoring of the possible effects of the current weather system and ensure prompt coordination with concerned agencies and offices," said MMDA chairman Danny Lim, who is also a chairperson for the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC).

The MMDA's preparations for Ompong include putting up emergency stations at major thoroughfares across the metro. The stations are set up at the following locations:  EDSA-Roxas Boulevard, EDSA-Ortigas, EDSA-Orense, EDSA-Timog, C5-Libis, Commonwealth-Tandang Sora, and Nagtahan.

As the agency continues to monitor the situation from its Metrobase Command Center, it is also ready to deploy emergency services like rescue vans, ambulances, military trucks, as well as necessary equipment such as life vests.

Stay safe and dry out there, folks. We could be in for a big one. Stay off the roads if you can.
