The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is looking to ease the traffic situation on EDSA by implementing a total truck ban on the metro\'s main thoroughfare effective today, July 8. The last time the MMDA set up a similar ban on EDSA was for the Christmas season of 2012.

The agency is hopeful that the truck ban will alleviate the traffic on EDSA since it will be in place 24/7 from Monday to Sunday and will cover the stretch from Magallanes in Makati City to North Avenue in Quezon City. According to the agency, covered by the ban are cargo trucks and heavy vehicles that weigh 4,500kg and above.

In other areas covered by the modified uniform truck ban, however, it will still be in effect from 6am to 10am and from 5pm to 10pm \"every day except Sundays and holidays.\"

According to the MMDA, the total truck ban on EDSA will be in effect until January 5, 2014.
