The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has a message for vendors who put up stalls on pedestrian overpasses: Do not come back.
A Facebook post released by the traffic agency earlier today, August 8, showed images of a free-flowing EDSA-Ortigas pedestrian walkway (near the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration building and EDSA Shrine) where clearing operations were recently conducted. Look:
“Ito ang footbridge sa EDSA-Ortigas matapos ang clearing operations—walang sagabal na nagtitinda at nadaraanan ito ng maayos at mabilis,” the MMDA’s caption reads. “Mensahe ng MMDA sa mga vendors: Hindi ito tiangge kaya huwag na kayong babalik.”
This comes amid a government crackdown on illegal stalls and businesses on public sidewalks and roads. The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has given Metro Manila’s mayors until late September to clear their cities of such obstructions.
A few days ago, the MMDA assisted Pasig and Pateros local government units (LGU) in sidewalk clearing operations, removing an ill-placed transport terminal and going so far as to get rid of several city-built outposts.
