The beauty of social media is that ordinary people like you and us can communicate to VIPs who otherwise wouldn't give us the time of day. You know...celebrities, athletes, billionaires, even heads of state. These days, what you've been tossing around inside your head actually has a chance of reaching, say, Rodrigo Duterte, who, as you know, has just been elected president of the Republic of the Philippines.
Think about it: Can you imagine our parents back in the '70s being able to let Ferdinand Marcos know about their problems with a flooded street? They'd get shot (or disappear) if they tried to chase the dictator's almighty convoy just to send a message across.
Thanks to social media, we don't need to physically stalk the president just to call his attention. Right now, in fact, Filipino netizens are using the hashtag #DearPresidentDigong on Twitter to try and share with him their concerns about their daily lives. Here, we've collated some of the motoring-related tweets to provide an at-a-glance picture of the land-transportation issues that Duterte's administration will inevitably face.
We're not sure if the incoming president is on Twitter--or if he even uses the Internet at all--but perhaps a member of his staff can show these to him just to get the ball rolling. Fingers crossed.
If nothing else, the following pleas or requests give us an idea about the size of work we all need to do to help improve traffic and public transportation, among other things.
