After a few delays, it’s finally happening: The east portion of Marcos Bridge is being closed down on May 25 for renovations. It was originally set to begin on May 4, but was postponed after inspections found the project’s contractor was not ready to proceed, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) says.

“After two weeks of preparations, it is definite now. Marcos Bridge will be closed for the next four months to give way to its long-overdue rehabilitation,” MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said during a news briefing.

“Private contractors are now ready to push through with the rehabilitation after complying with the necessary requirements they need to address,” he added.

Four months then. If you often head to Markina or Antipolo, you’re going to want to pay attention to the following alternate routes provided by the MMDA. Check them out.

  1. From Cubao, take Aurora Boulevard then turn right to Katipunan Avenue. Take the service road of Libis underpass, make a left turn to Boni Serrano and take FVR Road straight to Macapagal Bridge, then take Marcos Highway to Antipolo.
  2. From Cubao, turn right to 15th Avenue, then left turn to Boni Serrano. Take FVR Road, straight to Macapagal Bridge then Marcos Highway to Antipolo.
