Do you often drive through northern expressways? Then get this: The Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) is set to increase its toll rates effective this Friday, June 14, 2019.
The Toll Regulatory Board has recently approved the adjustments to the SCTEX toll rates, which will increase current fees by P0.51 per kilometer. Here’s a clearer example: When entering from Mabalacat City (Mabiga Interchange) and exiting through Tarlac, an additional P20 will be charged for ordinary cars (Class 1 vehicles), P40 for buses and small commercial trucks (Class 2 vehicles), and P60 for large trucks and trailers (Class 3 vehicles).
The additional charges come as a result of a petition filed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority back in 2011. However, despite the lack of toll-fee hikes in the last years, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation has continued to make various improvements to the SCTEX, including some major asphalt pavements across the 94km stretch and additional booths at the Mabiga Interchange and Tipo Toll Plazas.
CCTV cameras and radio comms, LED highway lights, emergency call boxes, crash cushions, and reflective delineator plates have also been installed in key areas of the expressway for better road safety and round-the-clock monitoring. Toll collection across the NLEX and SCTEX has been unified as well through an integration project in 2016, to the greater convenience of thousands of motorists crossing the northern tollways.
