Mr. Bean sets Top Gear lap record

Beating two British comedians and one Tom Cruise

Rowan Atkinson may be famous for having played the clumsy and goofy title character in the popular TV series Mr. Bean but the genial comedian proved he is fast behind the wheel.

At the most recent episode of the Top Gear TV show in the United Kingdom, Atkinson was the guest in the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment. In it, Atkinson briefly touched on his ownership of a Honda NSX and of his McLaren F1, which he said he has owned for 14 years and put nearly 60,000 kilometers on. The British comedian also talked about how he convinced Rolls-Royce to put into the Phantom the 9.0-liter V16 engine for his upcoming movie Johnny English Reborn.

Of course, as is the climax of the segment, Atkinson took to the Top Gear track and clocked in a time of one minute and 42.2 seconds, putting him on top of the segment's leader board using the show's Kia Cee'd test car. The Cee'd became the show's "reasonably priced car" on the 15th season of Top Gear in June 2010, replacing the Chevrolet Lacetti (or the Optra as it is known in the Philippines), which debuted in the eighth season in May 2006.
