Mugen has come up with its own take on the Honda CR-Z to demonstrate its capabilities in function, style, performance and agility when it comes to modifying the three-door compact hybrid.

Calling it the CR-Z Mugen RR, the Japanese tuning firm has given the car a number of bespoke prototype parts, some of which are made of carbon fiber like the bonnet, passenger doors and rear tailgate. Other features unique to the car include a full-length carbon-fiber underbody, a twin central-exit exhaust, vented front bumpers and race-developed suspension. To complement the Valencia Orange Pearl exterior paint work, the CR-Z Mugen RR also gets orange four-piston monobloc brake calipers and forged 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the car gets black and orange, leather and Alcantara-clad, Mugen-branded sport seats as well as a race-developed information screen that not only has the ability to record chassis and engine data but also functions as a satellite navigation and audio system. This high-tech equipment can also monitor the car's performance over two laps to "learn" a circuit and then record lap data and vehicle tracking using GPS.

It's too bad, then, that Mugen has no plans to put the CR-Z Mugen RR into production.

Last June, Honda (UK) and Mugen Euro revealed the Honda CR-Z Mugen.
