Petron Corporation, a fuel firm with over 1,700 service stations nationwide, is supporting the global drive to safer roads through the Petron Lakbay Alalay program.
"Petron Lakbay Alalay, the country's longest-running and most extensive motorist-assistance program, has aligned its activities to strongly support the United Nations' Decade of Action for Road Safety," the oil firm said in a statement.
Petron's Lakbay Alalay used to be a service solely offered during the Holy Week when many Filipinos are known to drive to different provinces to spend the long holiday. The program, however, has expanded into a full-blown summer road safety program.
"(It) inherently supports the objectives of the United Nations. In particular, free safety checks offered at participating Petron stations help ensure that vehicles are well-maintained for worry-free travel," Petron said.
The company also recently launched its Mobile Lakbay Alalay project that sends car-care and road-safety tips directly to registered mobile phone users.
