Peugeot is capitalizing on the global success of its 3008 compact crossover by creating another one, which it has dubbed the 2008. The good news is that it's probably headed our way.

"In the 2008, Peugeot has the vehicle that will secure its leadership in the segment in Europe and which will win new customers in Asia and Latin America," said Peugeot director general Maxime Picat.

The 2008 adopts Peugeot's current design language, with the front fascia highlighted by the sculpted hood, a 'floating grille', and the sharply designed headlights that, according to the French carmaker, is designed to look like a cat's pupil.

With its higher driving position and pronounced wheel arches, the 2008 has an appealing road presence and stance. The black bumpers and body sills serve to protect it from abrasions, while the stainless steel side moldings give it a touch of class.

With its low loading sill, putting cargo in the 2008 is easy. Yet, despite its utilitarian nature, the car boasts dynamism, with its roofline drawing inspiration from the double-bubble roof of the RCZ sports coupe.

The contoured and elegant roofline design style is most prominent in profile view, with a wave-line that rises above the rear seat position and is the characteristic feature of the 2008. The roofline also optimizes the 2008's aerodynamic performance with an integrated spoiler that extends over the top of the tailgate.

Though Peugeot hasn't revealed what engines the crossover will be offered with, the carmaker does claim that, with the technology of the e-HDi Diesel and new three-cylinder gasoline engines, the 2008 "stands out from the competition with carbon dioxide emissions starting from just 99g/km."

"With the 2008, Peugeot is continuing its product offensive and capitalizing on the success of the 3008 by offering a new crossover, urban and innovative, to win over an international clientele," said Peugeot product director Xavier Peugeot.
