Police checkpoints to be set up in Metro Manila for SONA

More bottlenecks in the coming weeks

The leadership of the Philippine National Police appealed today for cooperation among the country’s motorists--particularly those from Metro Manila--since the PNP will be establishing mobile checkpoints in strategic areas as part of security preparations for the State of the Nation Address of President Benigno S. Aquino III on July 25.

“We ask the public for their continued support and cooperation by reporting suspicious-looking persons in their area. The conduct of checkpoints will be intensified days prior to the SONA,” PNP chief director General Raul Bacalzo said in a statement.

Bacalzo has instructed National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Supt. Allan LM Purisima to supervise all security preparations and operations in Metro Manila in close coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Bacalzo reiterated the deployment of more policemen in the streets in connection with the implementation of the Police Integrated Patrol System.

"The PNP will ensure that the President’s SONA will be safe, secure and successful. We will thwart all possible threats,” Bacalzo emphasized.
