Porsches are known to be reliable--so reliable that a recall of one of its products is a very, very rare occurrence. So when Porsche announced that it is recalling close to 2,000 units of its high performance models, you can bet that piqued the interest of a lot of people, which is probably why you're reading this bit of news now.
Porsche recently informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is recalling 1,702 units of 911 models that are equipped with center locking hub and wheel assemblies and assembled between May 18, 2009 and September 17, 2010. According to the German carmaker, the hubs can wear prematurely, which could then loosen the wheels and result in a crash.
Unfortunately, the center locking hub is a racing-inspired feature that's unique to only the hottest of Porsches which means owners of the 911 Turbo, the 911 Turbo S, the 911 GT2, the 911 GT3 and the 911 GT3 RS better ease their foot off of the accelerator unless they plan on causing a crash.
