Specs of new Mitsubishi Montero Sport revealed

"Can you handle the power?"

This text is found in the brochure of the much-awaited Mitsubishi Montero Sport, which has been a hot topic in various car forums since the beginning of the year. After all, rumor has it the incoming Montero Sport boasts more power to please sport-utility vehicle fanatics.

So are the speculations correct?

According to Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, the new Montero Sport is powered by a 2.5-liter DOHC DI-D engine with variable geometry turbo (VGT) that can deliver 175hp at 4,000rpm and 350Nm at 1,800rpm to 3,500rpm.

The brochure of the Montero Sport GTV 4x4 further reads: "The Magnesium Alloy paddle shifter and the new 5-speed INVECS II automatic transmission provides both driving convenience and excitement at the flick of the finger."

The four-wheel-drive Montero Sport also comes with a hybrid limited slip differential, which promises "excellent off-road response, combining the torque sensing benefit of helical gears and speed-sensing of a viscous coupling unit, all designed to work together with ABS."

Aside from the GTV variant, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is also going to introduce the Montero Sport GLS V 4x2, which comes with a four-speed INVECS II automatic transmission. With the same 2.5-liter engine with VGT, the 4x2 variant can deliver the same power offered by the GTV variant.
