A welcome development for green motoring

Victory Liner electric bus

Taiwan's RAC Electric Vehicles has entered into a supply agreement with the Philippines' Victory Liner, a large bus operator with a reported fleet of some 4,500 buses. Under the agreement, RAC is to churn out an annual production of 100 new electric buses and 250 modified electric buses. As of this writing, there is already a confirmed order for at least 40 electric buses.

Electric jeepneys and electric tricycles are also part of the project. With the joint venture's huge potential, RAC is said to be putting up an electric-vehicle factory in the country. The company's representatives paid Malacañang a courtesy visit yesterday to officially communicate its plans and also to show off a unit of the e-bus.

This is welcome news indeed. A handful of electric buses--at least initially--will go a long way in our drive toward a greener future.
