The other day, we reported that the upcoming all-new Ford GT received a whopping 6,506 orders in a span of just one month. Out of this number, only 500 lucky customers will be given the keys to the hot new supercar (they need to buy it, of course). The GT is one of the most advanced automobiles to date.
We say this because, apparently, the body isn’t the only part of the vehicle to benefit from the use of carbon-fiber material. Buyers can opt for 10-spoke carbon-fiber wheels. Sized 8.5x20 up front and 11.5x20 in the rear, the optional package comes in either matte or glossy finishes. Each one is designed to further enhance the car’s stunning lines.
Constructed using advanced fiber and resin technology, these carbon rims offer a ton of advantages when it comes to driving performance. The reduced weight means less stress on the suspension. This in turn translates to more consistent road contact, as well as prolonging vital components. Moreover, the overall savings when it comes to the car’s unsprung mass pays dividends in terms of handling, acceleration, braking and ride comfort. And unlike their metal counterparts, these wheels are quieter and make for lower noise, vibration and harshness levels.
The GT is the second model to come with the mass-produced carbon rollers, after the equally racy Shelby 350R. With tech that extends all the way to the wheels, we can see why many are going nuts over Ford’s newest baby.
