Ford made some big improvements to its infotainment system when it rolled out the Ford SYNC 3. And now that the carmaker is on the verge of launching the new SYNC 4, we can probably say the same.
The American carmaker has just revealed the features of its new entertainment hub, and it appears that the SYNC 4 will be able to provide up-to-date information on traffic, incidents, parking, charging, and fuel. Real-time connectivity will allow the new SYNC 4 to locate the closest available parking spot as well as the cheapest fuel in the area.
This new feature comes courtesy of INRIX, a connected car services and transportation analytics provider. The services of INRIX will be responsible for the SYNC 4’s ability to find, compare, and navigate available parking spaces and fuel prices of nearby gas stations. It will also enable the SYNC 4 to determine the rates, restrictions, and real-time occupancy of on-street and garage parking spots.
“Customers want connected vehicle technologies to work more like smartphones with real-time, personalized services—and that is exactly what SYNC 4 offers, including INRIX’s parking and fuel price innovations,” said Ford Connected Vehicle Infotainment Systems manager Gary Jablonski. “For example, many F-150 customers drive from job to job in new areas where we can help guide them to gas stations and parking spots closest to them, or perhaps a bit further if they are looking for cheaper options.”
“Since 2008, INRIX has played an important role bringing connected services to Ford SYNC drivers,” said INRIX president and CEO Bryan Mistele. “These services are no longer just a selling point but a requirement—real-time information like traffic, parking and fuel play a critical role in the entire driving experience.”
