Toyota Motor Corp. saw its global sales dip amid the financial and economic slump in 2008.
The Japanese carmaker on Tuesday said it sold 8.972 million units worldwide, four percent lower than the number of units it sold in 2007.
Of the total 2008 sales, 2.153 million units were sold in Japan. The figure is five percent lower than the number of vehicles Toyota sold in the country in the previous year.
Toyota said its overseas sales stood at 6.819 million in 2008, four percent lower than the number of vehicles it sold outside Japan in 2007.
In the Philippines, Toyota sold 45,915 units representing a 1.8 percent increase in sales volume in 2008 over the previous year.
Data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. showed that Toyota continued to dominate the Philippine car industry as it cornered 36.9 percent of the market in 2008.
